Thunderbird profile migration

After a fresh install of Thunderbird and after using a USB thumb drive to copy and paste the proper Thunderbird profiles folder to the new Roaming folder a problem persists. The new install of Thunderbird requires the USB thumb drive to be inserted into a USB port in order to function properly. Without the USB thumb drive in a port, the new version will not check mail nor does it show the default profile mail boxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash). In short... the transfer works perfectly only when the USB used to make the transfer remains connected.

I must be overlooking something but after many attempts I'm stumped.
