Creating a message filter

I'm using Thunderbird 78.14.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 2021.4 Linux xxxxxx 5.11.0-37-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 20 16:39:20 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Recently (the last couple of months) Thunderbird does not allow me to select a (Move Message to) destination folder in the Choose Folder option when creating a message filter. The drop-down list appears but I am unable to select an option.

Do I need to update permissions somewhere in the .thunderbird directory structure?

I do have many filters already setup, which still redirect incoming email correctly, but I have had a purge recently of out-of-date filters and folders. Is it a capacity problem - is there a limit on the number of filters allowed?

Many thanks for your consideration.
