Opening new tab automatically clicking search bar

When I press ctrl-t, it normally opens a new tab, with the search bar automatically activated so I can immediately type in a website. When I am watching a video in full screen and press ctrl-t, the search bar is not automatically selected, and I have to click it to search something. Is there a fix for this?
