Search boxes not appearing on Search page

I've been using Thunderbird for many, many years and have now encountered this situation 2 or 3 times. Mysteriously, on rare occasion, the search boxes on the Search page disappear!! I mean the boxes that allow you to select "Subject" or "From" or "Body" etc etc and then supply the search criteria. None of these boxes appear, just a big empty blank box. Has ANYBODY else EVER encountered this? And, if so, what causes it, and what fixes it??? Thank you.

I can't believe no other Thunderbird user has encountered this! It happened to me again a few days ago and I made a screen copy (attached here).

Test for a broken layout by running in safe mode (Help/Restart with Add-ons Disabled).

OK, I tried safe mode and didn't see any difference. However, this phenomenon is only sporadic. It mysteriously appears, then just as mysteriously disappears. It doesn't happen often, and I haven't seen it now for maybe a week. I can try safe mode again if it happens again --- to see if it disappears in safe mode.

The Windows version doesn't have 'Choose Folder...'. If you first choose a folder or account, do the filter names then appear?

No (btw, my OS is linux) (but I've used Thunderbird on both Windows and linux for a long time and I've had this (fortunately temporary) problem on both - have not noticed any OS difference)
