I have two pictures that would like to place side by side on the same page. They are both .jpg images. Another thing that would like, is having more control on where I can place .jpg images on the screen. Right at the moment the images are always placed on the left side of the screen. I would like to be able to place these images anywhere on the screen! How do I go about teaching Thunderbird this 'trick' ?

You can use Tables to control the position of images.

So if you had two images which you want side by side: Create a Table which has two cells and one row. click in first cell to get flashing cursor so you have focus in that cell Insert > Image choose image and complete details then repeat in other cell.

See info on creating and using Tables in Thunderbird. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tables-format-messages-rows-and-columns
