Thunderbird 78.5.0 stopped retrieving new mail. SOLVED caused by ESET security

Long time thunderbird user. 78.5.0 has been functioning on up to date windows 10 laptop up until this morning. It will not retrieve any new mail. No error messages.

Tried reboot. Tried uninstall/reinstall. No change.

Thunderbird 68.12.0 on a windows 7 desktop on the same home network is working fine. Not sure what else to try here. Any thoughts?

Disabling ESET NOD32 email filtering appears to fix the issue with my POP mail server. My gmail IMAP connection from thunderbird is still hanging and not retrieving mail. Pausing ESET completely does not appear to fix it.

Hi, are you using Eset firewall? There seems to be an update was released which blocks some parts of Thunderbird. Try to disable it by right clicking on the icon in the system tray > Advanced settings > Web and email, and disable the options there.

For POP3, specifically disabling the pop3 scanner in advanced settings for ESET allows the thunderbird to retrieve mail from the pop3 server. Still checking for the IMAP connection

For IMAP disabling IMAP scanner setup in ESET advanced settings seems to fix the problem with accessing the GMAIL IMAP server.
