turning off "collected addresses"

I don't want thunderbird to harvest incoming addresses. I don't want those addresses in my address book. I get too much random stuff, then have to spend an hour cleaning up my address book.

how do I turn this off? please advise.

options > type "collect" > uncheck the preference
