Message pane is too bright in Thunderbird 78

I run on an iMac with display option Dark Mode set. The problem i have has to do with the brightness of the message pane. All the screen area surrounding this pane is dark ... this pane is a very bright white ... Is there a way for me set the background on this pane to be a light brown (for example) to lessen eye strain ?

Options/General/Language & Appearance, Colors, changing the Background color will affect the Message Pane and Write window. You may have to change the override setting, depending on the theme.

Options/General/Language & Appearance, Colors does not work in Thunderbird 78. I can find nothing equivalent to what you suggest ... need a path that works in TB 78.
