Can someone please explain me why there are no such options? My brain does not understand this part of the Mozilla. And that's why I prefer other email clients above thunderbird.

No idea where those 'System preferences' came from - they are not part of the standard TB. Perhaps an add-on? There is an add-on to Minimize on Close, but it doesn't add anything to the General Options.

I am actually asking if team could add those options to the email client.

I don't think these features will be added to the core program, as you can already add a program to the Startup folder, and the add-on performs the minimize on close function. Minimize TB to the notification area (tray) will be included in the next release, 78, for Windows.

Requests for enhancements are usually submitted to Bugzilla.

That link you posted is known to me but 90% or users will never do that alone as it is programming area.

So 90% of users will not be able to add TB to the stratup. I work with many clients and you guys probably don't understand how complicated such things are for them. They just install the program, add gmail account and they just expect it to work and expect to receive emails, but there are no emails because TB is not running most of the time. So they remove the TB and add account to the Windows Mail and they are happy because they receive notifications. This is reality guys. What you think guys is abstraction.

If I do a survey and ask TB users if they prefer to receive notifications, 90% of users would say YES.

Have you seen a toaster or kettle or hoover which needs to be reprogrammed before use? No. You just press the button and it works. Otherwise 90% of users will send them back saying it is not working/broken.

I feel like someone from TB developers taking money from Microsoft and other giants to push those 90% users to use their spyware instead of trustworthy and secure TB.

re :but there are no emails because TB is not running most of the time.

Are you saying that 90% of all your clients who downloaded Thunderbird and have the abilities to understand and create mail accounts and exit Thunderbird, then expect Thunderbird to work without actually starting up the program? Sorry dude, but I don't think that sounds pausible.

Might I suggest you send the link on how to add programs to startup list to your clients by default as a courtesy when they say they want to use Thunderbird or if using Windows 10, advise them to type 'startup' in the search and they will discover the 'startup.app' option.

You might like to inform them this information is useful if they desire any program to auto launch when they boot up computer and access desktop.

Ok. I got a challenge for you. Find some average user and ask him to add an app to the startup. I wanna know what will be your impressions.

I don't see those two options at my end - please see the screenshot. I am on Thunderbird v68.8.0.

They don't exist. I am proposing those options.

Look, I'm not some green rookie. I've done this hundreds of times over the past 20+ years with various software and a range of people from students to old age pensioners. I know some do not need help, majority need just a pointer to eg: microsoft help page and some need more reassurance they are looking in the right place. Never have I ever come across anyone who thinks a program can function if it is switched off. It is not a challenge. It is a futile waste of my time. But if it helps you, the last person I helped was a month ago and they were aged 82, they presumed rightly that all programs need to running in order to work and had no problems adding a program to a start menu once I had told them to type 'startup' in the search and select the 'Startup.app' option.

Hi Den

I've looked into your request for enhancement on option to have startup and can confirm there is something in the pipeline. A bug request is being worked on, so I've included the link if you want to follow it.
