Emails gets stuck in memory downloading then will not receive emails

My friend's computer uses Thunderbird email from an xfinity Imap account.

Thunderbird automatically set up the correct server parameters so ass-u-me-ing that it's setting that up right those settings are correct along with her email address and password.

It started about a month ago she has trouble receiving emails. Out going emails go through just fine since I get her pleas for help. She is 84 yrs old and depends on me for support of her computer.

The program loads and automatically begins downloading new emails with activty circle, but nothing ever comes in. Looking at her email on xfinity's mail page works just fine and none of the affected email is spam nor in the spam folder. Restarting the computer fixes the problem but it recurs.

I deleted thunderbird totally and created a new profile on Saturday last week (June 16th) and the problem was gone until yesterday when it began again. She restarted her computer today which fixes it.

It seems that thunderbird is getting stuck in memory while downloading, but why does it take 6 days for this problem to appear?

Also, this may or may not be related. When sending an email it says it cannot write to the sent folder and prompts whether to wait or send the email anyway. She said she tells it to continue without saving the sent message after waiting up to 15 minutes of the activity circle spinning. I have not seen this happen myself and I'm relaying what she described so this may not be 100% what happens.

Since I already deleted the profile which presumably makes a new database for the emails what do I do next to try and track down then fix these problems?

Her computer is on an A6 processor 16GB of RAM, Windows 10 Home, 1TB SSD Firefox and Thunderbird are up to date via push updates. No extensions on thunderbird or FF whatsoever. Windows is not updated to 1903 build yet, but any other regular push updates are installed. AV software is AVG Free or Avast Free (I forget which) with minimal components installed. No other firewalls except windows firewall and whatever is on the xfinity voice/modem.
