ok , again i see that firefox like other sites that dont take their responsibility dosnt have a real helpline . Although help with volunteers has proved its inefficiency , i will try submitting 2 questions : 1 why has skype been abandoned ? 2 Why does firefox use so much memory , causing a pc with 8 gb ram to crash ? In general ive been using firefox for quite some time , and i notice that as time goes , its getting worse , starting by the abandon of plugins like flashplayer etc , that worked perfectly as add-on but cause problems now. good day , sigy

Hello sigy7,

Firefox is a free product, and Mozilla, the company that 'makes' Firefox, doesn't have the financial means to maintain a professional helpdesk. You might even be better off with a support forum like this one : Volunteer contributors spend their spare time because they want to help, not because they get paid to do so.

Although help with volunteers has proved its inefficiency

I will give it a try anyway ......

To answer your first question, would you please read this :

https://www.ghacks.net/2019/01/30/skypes-for-web-does-not-support-firefox/

And to (hopefully) shed a little light on your second question :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram

If these are not the answers you were expecting or hoping for : somebody else might come up with a way better answer ...... (fingers crossed).

As far a Firefox crashing for you, that can be addressed here, too.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

starting by the abandon of plugins like flashplayer etc

The Flash Player Plugin (NPAPI) from Adobe is still supported in Firefox however Adobe themselves are in process of discontinuing their Flash Player for good in late 2020.

1 why has skype been abandoned ?

According to a story in yesterday's VentureBeat:

In a statement to VentureBeat, a Microsoft spokesperson said the service requires “calling and real-time media” technology that is “implemented differently across various browsers.” So the company “decided to prioritize bringing Skype to [the] web on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome based on customer value.”

I guess customers not using Chrome and Edge have less value to Microsoft? Probably not what they meant.
