I received an email that contains highlighted text and Thunderbird does not show this highlighting. If I look at the email on my Samsung S7 in the stock email client I can see the text highlighting. In Thunderbird, my default "View Body as" setting is "Original HTML" but I tried all 3 to see if that would make a difference: nope. I tried Thunderbird in "Safe Mode" still no highlighting. I've tried different Window view options: i.e.: different pane, tab & windows: no change. I tried Web searches and Mozilla support searches and the only thing I've found so far was: set view to "Original HTML": that doesn't work in my case. Note: I am not TRYING TO highlight something (which most posts seem to be about). I am using Thunderbird version 66.0b2. I was able to extract the highlighting htlml with this tip: "in composing the message, Edit->Select All, then click the Insert->HTML menu option on your message window." the highlighting html code is:

(huh: I had to edit the html as this system was trying to "execute" it :) I single quoted the fist and last tag characters ) '<' span style="color:#1F497D;background:yellow;mso-highlight:yellow" '>'

Does the same thing happen with the release version, 60.5.2?

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/60.5.2/win32/

I see an mso tag in the html, which suggests the message was copied from MS Word, a method that often introduces incompatible formatting.

60.5.2 does not show the highlighting either. Knowing the sender, I doubt the text was copied from MS-Word but I'm certain it was sent from MS-Outlook.

UPDATE: For any developers out there: I am still exploring this problem and I opened the "Developer Tools Console" (for the first time), used the "Pick an Element from the page" tool, found the "mso-highlight" in the HTML and in the "This Element" pane of the Developer Tools windows it shows the "mso-highlight: yellow;" item with StrikeThrough text (i.e. a line through the text) and an (orange?) exclamation mark beside it. When I hover on this I get a pop-up stating "Invalid property value". Does that mean that Thunderbird just does not support this tag??

Update: If I copy all the html from Thunderbird, copy it into a file and open it in Firefox (65.0.1) then all the highlighting is shown and is correct. The Firefox Developer Tools Inspector Tool shows the same "Invalid property name" as Thunderbird. So what is the rendering difference between these programs ??

I can't explain why TB doesn't render the highlighting produced by Outlook, but it's not surprising it displays properly in Firefox, or any browser, since browsers tend to be more 'robust' as far as dealing with non-standards-compliant html, compared to TB, which adheres to (or attempts to) stricter, narrower, standards.

Same problem here A snippet from message source: " ... visit the '<'span style=3D"color:#e74c3c;"'><'span style=3D"font-size:16px;"'><'span style=3D"font-family:Georgia;"'>'American Treasure Museum'<'/span'><'/span'><'/span'>' in ..." . Seems the font tag is working, but the color and size do not. Message was generated by (I think) some version of CKEditor. TB 68.8.0 32 bit.
