T'Bird password issue

My email service (used to be 1and1.com) password has been updated. T'Bird will not accept a new password.

ISSUE:

Somewhere along the line several years ago when T'Bird was installed and the account configuration was created, the T'Bird's "automatic configuration" program decided the IMAP server setting should be "www.imap.1und1.com" and SMTP "www.smtp.1und1.com" -- obviously, a German designation. When I noticed that (after the connections failing), I changed "und" to "and" . . . for subsequent connection success.

Now the company has changed its name to IONOS, so I edited the server settings to reflect such.

Further, going to T'Bird TOOLS > OPTIONS > SAVED PASSWORDS, I deleted what existed. NOTE: The OLD password (which did not appear in SAVED PASSWORDS) is apparently still connected to the 1und1.com designation -- and it has hidden it's self very successfully in the system somewhere . . .

Now, when opening T'Bird, the popup asks for the password; I entered a NEW one (which process, according to every doc I've found on-line, should result in the new password being saved in the system); closed T'Bird; reopened T'Bird; pop-up requests password; I enter the NEW one . . . only to be informed FAILED -- so, of course, it does not appear in SAVED PASSWORDS.

Lengthy phone conversation with IONOS resulted in their unresolved puzzlement and "our technical department will be looking into this . . ."

Anyone out there in HelperLand who might be able to illuminate my darkened understanding about how to locate and remove the "1und1" w/OLD password so that I can have the NEW one saved.

Would be much appreciated! Thank you.

imap.ionos.de is the same logical server like imap.1und1.de or imap.1und1.com. There is only a mapping. So at TBs question for a password you must enter the actual 1und1 password (what you appearently do)

When TB does not accept a "valid" password (because it is rejcted by the server), nothing is stored as "known password" . Maybe you disturbed the TB preferences by changing the server name.

In the past days I worked on the name change , too. After defining the new names in TB I manually checked prefs.js and replaced the remaining 1und1.de by ionos.de.

CAUTION: There are some local path names "C:\ .... \ 1und1.de ... which of course must not be changed.
