Is there anything that can be done about the Not Responding stuff if a profile folder has gone to over 60 gigs? I've done the safe mode and turned off AV etc etc etc. It is impossible to get anything done, I wait from 1-2 minutes all the time now for TB to stop hanging with the "Not Responding" message....it just bricks and is totally unusable.

I've done the safe mode

What safe mode? Thunderbird? Windows? Please be more specific.

I've ... turned off AV

How? What is your anti-virus software?

etc etc etc.

What does this mean?

63 gigabyle profile

Are there single folders with a size of multiple gigabytes? If so take a look at the Archive feature. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/archived-messages

My profile folder in total is up to 63 gigabytes.

I've tried TB is safe mode with no Addons.

I turned off Windows AV on the profile folder and on thunderbird.exe.

It freezes into (Not Responding) and takes 1-2 mins to recuperate

How about turning off the AV in the anti virus product you are using. Christ1 asked what you were using, perhaps you missed the question.

Usually when you see a huge profile like you describe it is caused by files being duplicated triplicated etc because Thunderbird never actually does it's housekeeping because there is an anti virus program forcing it to about all the time.

Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX

Whhile in Safe mode for the operating system, compact all folders File menu (alt+F) > Compact Folders

Are you the guy who posted in IRC on Friday?

No I didn’t post on IRC and the issue is bigger than TB. The entire system is on edge of being comatose, so u til I figure that out I won’t know. After repairs I will update

No. I have purchased an entirely new machine and will get it Thursday. This box is toast....something seriously wrong after a hard reset....I think it fried Windows. All the hardware checks out fine but the OS is total crap. Apps take minutes to load and processes are in slow motion.

After buying an entirely new PC with i7 and 64 gigs of RAM and reinstalling TB and then copying over the profile....still getting hangups, stalls and Not Responding but now they only last for a short time. I think there's something wrong with the calendar stuff. I am using Google Calendar with Lightening and each time I launch TB the calendar comes up in Nov 2018 and it keeps asking me for login to a profile I deleted. Should I totally delete all the calendar stuff and try to reinstall?

So I am a week in to a brand new system (but copied profile folder from old system mainly to retain all contacts etc) and TB still goes into puke mode over and over again.

I start to type an email and it just freezes with the Not Responding stuff and I just sit and wait, and wait, and wait, upwards to 1-2 minutes sometimes.

I am really concerned as it is quite challenging to get actual work done.

Many times when I click Send with an attachment, the thing will stall on the send. They complete, but not after excruciating wait periods??

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Does the problem go away?

Perhaps an obvious question, but is the profile still 64Gb?

dsdooley unfortunately stopped responding, which I now see has happened in some of his other posts in 2018/2019:

And I also see that gmail is involved. So, a first step is the gmail "All Mail" folder should be unsubscribed.

dsooley If you still have trouble with the gmail change when running in Windows safe mode then you should post in a new topic.
