developer tools open refresh page doesn't work

When I have developer tools open I experience "on page refresh" that I have to change away from teh active tab and back again, before the page actually refreshes, not only the webpage but also the developer tools.. problem have been there for around a month or so. I am at a complete loss to what is causing this. Any and all surgestions are welcome.
