I've just installed Thunderbird and tried to unify 5 accounts as I inbox, but don't seem to have done this. 1 didn't do anything (I think it's set to IMAP) and all I have on the left apart from this is the one accoutn I meant to be the main one, but noting appears in the Local Folders section, as it says it should. This isn't what's supposed to happen, right? Can i undo it or do have to spend another half day uninstalling it and starting again, after fighting my way though the various settings for each email address?

OK - I've un-unified them and am now getting lots of downloads from the accounts that disappeared, so I'd obviously done something wrong. Sorry for the spelling mistakes in the previous message!

Thanks, christ1, I'll read through it

Only Pop mail accounts can use 'Global Inbox'.

Imap mail accounts use subscribed synchronised folders so cannot use a Global Inbox in the same way. But you can use a 'Unified view'.

Hi, Toad-Hall, I'd finally realised that and also found that gmail doesn't seem to do POP, so I'll look inot Unified View. I only started with Thunderbird yesterday and it seems very good, but I've a lot of reading to do!

Gmail does allow POP, but you have to logon to gmail webmail account first and select the 'less secure apps' option otherwise gmail block your attempts. note, it is not less secure if you use a good password of at least 8 characters using letters and numbers. Info here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

When you initially create an existing mail account in Thunderbird: menu icon > New Messages > existing mail account Enter Name, Enter full email address Enter password click on 'Continue' button Thunderbird will automatically configure using imap, but you can click on 'Manual Config' button and change the option to POP.
