This question comes up to often and NO valid answer is given. Why does gmail state that Thunderbird is not secure ? How can I make thunderbird secure enough to make gmail happy ?

Chosen solution

change the authentication method to oAuth. but you can not do it for POP because Gmail does not support it.

Interesting how it is insecure until you are using their non preferred protocol that probably get your data off their servers and suddenly it is the only option.

Note that two factor authentication which they also push is only as good as the social engineering of the phishing emails and fake web sites used to ask for your password and 2fa code.
