Chosen solution

Thunderbird remembers its state between sessions. You have to remove the file in which this data is stored. In order to do so, follow these instructions:

  1. Start Thunderbird and wait for all the screens to open;
  2. Go to the menu (press Alt or F10) and choose Help > Troubleshooting Information;
  3. Under Application Basics next to Profile Folder press the button Open Folder;
  4. Close Thunderbird;
  5. In Windows Explorer (opened in step 3) remove the file session.json or rename it to session.json.bak.

Start Thunderbird again and only one screen will be opened
