I've remapped short cut keys (copy cut paste) on my mac, to use control button this works in everything but Firefox why?

I've remapped the shortcut keys on my mac, specifically cut, copy and paste. I can see in the edit drop down that they are correctly mapped to be control+c, control+x, control+v. (as they would be on windows). Copy and Cut are working but not paste. When I paste with control+v, nothing happens. Command+V will still paste but I have no idea why as this is a system wide change that affects all applications.
