I have lost all my historical emails in my inbox folder (however not my sub-folders)

As of 11am yesterday, all of my emails in my primary inbox have disappeared. The subfolders are fine, but the primary in-box folder is blank prior to yesterday - but I am receiving all new emails. I have tried "repair folder" application to no effect.
