On Mac, can a Firefox window already in a maximized full-screen view open a new window in a new maximized full-screen view?

I am using macOS Sierra and Firefox 57. I often maximize applications into a macOS full-screen view (i.e. on their own screen accessible from Mission Control or touchpad gesture). When calling for a new window of an application, the expected behavior is that the new window will appear and maximize to a new full-screen view to the right of the view from which it was called. This is what happens on any application I try except for Firefox. Instead, Firefox opens a new un-maximized window above the full-screen view and must be maximized by hand. Is there a setting to correct this behavior?
