I'm on a 2014 Mac Air, up to date with High Sierra and Firefox 57.

I've re-added the revised NoScript and all the other blockers I can find. But I'm having an issue with "floating" or "sticky" video windows - the ones that follow you down the page when you scroll past them. Really obnoxious examples can be seen on just about every page of sfgate-dot-com.

Something in my old set-up blocked this pest, and now that I'm having to live with it I'm going absolutely. What kind of blocker do I need to stop this?

Adblockers Maybe, most should just be able to click away. I get a few on site I go to.

I have u-block, Ghostery, and just for good measure I threw in Ad Aware. This is all on top of NoScript. And they just keep popping up.

I don't have much call to visit USA Today, but when a story linked me there today I found that not only did the pop-up screen follow me down the page - I couldn't close it. I could read scroll about eight lines of text at a time to read between the site's fixed top bar and the persistent video.

I'm just mystified that something was killing these off before, and nothing is now. My best guess is that NoScript might have been doing the job before, and hasn't re-added that yet to the new version. I'm really surprised no other add-on I can find performs the same function.

Please use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help : https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ Post in only 1 forum, then wait.

Unfortunately it is not a mystery.

Thanks for sticking with me on this.

I don't think this is malware, though. "Sticky" videos are common on news sites; I've just been lucky not to have to see them. Somehow they were blocked before and are defeating my blocks now.

Try the scan no harm use AwdCleaner by Malwarebytes.

You have to many Extensions that do the same thing. This could be causing conflicts, some of them work off the same block lists.. I use 2, uBlock Origin and Ghostery as the both work a little differently.and HttpsEverywhere along with paid Malwarebytes. I scan every couple days with AwdCleaner.

Looks like AdwCleaner is for Windows only - an .exe file. I've downloaded MWB for Mac, which is giving me its own problems. I've asked questions in their forum. It's not clear from the product description that the Mac package includes the adwcleaner equivalent.

Meanwhile, any other advice to kill off the news-site floating video windows is most welcome! It's like killing incoming invaders on click at a time. None of the various blockers I'm rotating through has any effect. (And I've posted a separate question about having to disable NoScript - apparently a known bug that causes some sites to default to mobile view on a laptop.)

Not really. Ad Aware is a antivirus program now with blocking ads 2nd place. If all ready running a A/V Program you are causing a conflict.

Yes forget that Macs are from another world. Would have provided the link for Malwarebytes for Mac. No AdwCleaner is a program acquired by Malwarebytes and is a stand alone program with the previous Owners/Developers still working on it.

No idea on your other post but NoScript has it's own Support page and Mozilla only ok's the Extension by the Developer for use with Firefox and provides then a website page for distribution. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/ link from URL https://forums.informaction.com/viewforum.php?f=3 and the also have Email Contact.

Wait for reply from the Malwarebytes forum, they are the experts.
