Using Ctrl + \ to produce the # in a Windows 10 VM using VMWare Fusion on Mac doesn't work

MacBook host with VMWare Fusion installed using a Windows 10 client.

Ctrl + \ is used to enter the # (hash) key (the keyboard in VM is set to use either the Command keys on the MacBook keyboard as the CTRL key).

Works OK in all applications and enters the # - tried in Edge, IE, Chrome, Visual Studio, Notepad and all work. But it just won't work in Firefox Quantum v57.0 either in text boxes such as search box or in any text boxes within web pages.

Is there anyway to enable this, or change any keyboard override that might be happening? Or, is it a bug?
