Why does my latest update of Firefox indicate Distributed by WildTangent?

more options

I am observing what appears to me to be something different in my latest update to Firefox. The message 'About Mozilla Firefox" indicates that this version (56.0.2 (32-bit)) is Distributed by WildTangent wildtangent-001 - 1.0. Have I inadvertently downloaded Firefox from some fake source? Most everything looks legitimate, but I'm wondering if something is amiss.

Thanks.

Chosen solution

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" When you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data When you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data When you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

Please consider turning on send info to Mozilla before posting a question. This helps us help you.

https://support.wildtangent.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004448366-Mozilla-Firefox Seems you play games from them. It maybe that yes you did get it from them or they changed the branding.

So it is not a security risk but it is not something I would want to be running when I support Firefox as my browser and not a Game Brand.

You could uninstall this version and reinstall Firefox 56.0.2 (64 bit or 32bit) from here using a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Note : Firefox 57 Quantum release date Nov 14th https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/quantum/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be disabled and or removed.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi  !

Looks like you've picked up some malware, that you will of course need to get rid of.

Would you please take a look at this article :

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

Please, run all the scans that are mentioned there - what one doesn't pick up, the other one will.
