I deleted about 950 Inbox messages then the screen appeared to go blank. Messages were there as I could highlight the message line and also select all and have all retained lines in light cyan. When highlighted messages can be dragged and dropped into another mail box where they are now readable. I emptied trash, but still new messages are invisible. Restarted Thunderbird, no difference. Repaired Inbx no difference.

Clearly I have a cumbersome work around, but why is this happenning and what is the solution?

Thanking all contributors in advance.

Chosen solution

sounds like you might have lost your heading for the list items so none display. on the right of where the headings normally are is a square looking boxy icon (right above the up arrow on the slider)

Click it and choose "reset columns to default"
