I have had Firefox on my laptop since the day I purchased this laptop back in 2013. I never had any problems til a month ago when I tried to open it and it said "Couldn't Load XPCOM". Now, I have uninstalled it. I erased EVERY file that pertains to Mozilla and Firefox (including the AppData and computer drive). I have tried reinstalling the program several times with no luck. This is VERY frustrating especially since I love the Firefox program and have now had to use Chrome, which I'm not impressed with. I have read other questions answered and basically telling me to uninstall and reinstall again (after erasing files) and everything will be "fine and dandy".... No, nothing has worked that I have researched and it's getting quite frustrating. Please someone give me a different route to take. Should I uninstall my antivirus program (AVG)? What should I do? My issue is the fact that nothing was installed or changed before last month, when it wouldn't open up. Thanks for your time.

An error message about XPCOM missing or about platform version usually happens because of a failed Firefox update that left you with a mixture of old and updated files in the Firefox program folder. This can happen in case security software was keeping a handle of some of the files in the Firefox program folder preventing Firefox from replacing all the files. You can do a clean reinstall to ensure that all files are replaced. You may have to disable security software temporarily in case the problem persists.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that allows to uninstall (remove) Firefox and reinstall Firefox properly.
