Why can't I get the aol toolbar to stay on my firefox?

When I go to view, and toolbar, the aol toolbar is checked yet nothing shows up on my firefox main page. In fact, sometimes it's there, the aol icon- on the left- with the weather on the right side, and sometimes it's not. When I check my add-ons, aol is not listed. Hopefully this explanation makes sense!
