It left a folder with all my settings, but how do I get them back?

Chosen solution

It does not matter whether the folders are open or closed when you start Firefox. The key thing is whether the content is in the place that Firefox will look for it at startup. What happens at startup -- you don't get the old settings?

Could you try the method in this thread and see whether it works for you: Accidentally Refreshed Firefox.

Just tried it, that's old instructions too, and some of the files in the old profile wouldnt delete when it says to copy everything over into the new profile folder.

If files in your profile folder are locked even after you exit out of Firefox, try restarting Windows and doing the file swap before running Firefox.

Edit: The old instructions appear to still be valid, except that the label on the button changed from "Show Folder" to "Open Folder" sometime in the past seven months.

Do I leave the two folders I copied from open when I restart firefox? It doesn't say anything about closing them out?
