Hi

This does not sound like an issue with Firefox, but more of an issue with Windows XP. I have had a look into this and have found this which may help.

Making sure that XP is up to date may also help, but I recommend that you consider upgrading from XP to a later version of Windows or moving to a Linux based operating system (which is free) as XP is no longer supported.

I think this is an issue with Firefox because it has the option in Applications to choose which application should be used. however the Mp4 can't be added for some reason to the application list found in version 56.01 in preferences/General.

Firefox relies on built-in OS support to play media files via the HTML5 media player. On the Windows XP platform you do not have native support for playing MP4 files with the HTML5 media player.

You can try if the solution posted here to add support for playing MP4 files works for you.
