Local Fail: Firefox disregards my homepage during launch and tries to open /%U and fails out of the box...

This happens for me under Linux Mint since 17.X, even with a fresh install of Mint and may be a Mint issue since this occurred briefly a number of years ago for a brief time. FF is the default browser under Mint. However I cannot find a config file that may cause this. Anyone here ever see this? Any fix? I'm running Linux Mint 18.1 and FF 52.0.2 (64-bit). Thanks.
