I keep getting "not responsive" at least 60% of time
At least 60% of the time when I try to open a message or read a message, I get a "not responsive" report. How do I eliminate this response.

What is your anti-virus software?
Kaspersky Internet Security 2017. My Malware Protection is Malwarebytes
Since you are using Windows 10, the problem could be caused by Windows Search.
In Thunderbird: Thunderbird Menu: Options: Advanced section: General tab (If you cannot see the Thunderbird menu, press the Alt key or F10 key on your keyboard to show the menu)

Uncheck "Allow Windows Search to search messages"
Quit Thunderbird. Restart Thunderbird.

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode
