These are "inserted images" not attachments. There is no problem with attached messages. I've spent about 40 hrs chasing this issue. Tried everything I could find in this forum and also some itms found on internet.

Including, but not limited to: 1) Toggling some fields in Advanced config editor 2) To Remote Content: adding numerous "Allow" URLs and a few "Allow emails" see screenshot 3) Disabling antivirus (temporarily for testing) 4) Only on two occasions have I seen the notification bar. What action I selected got rid of bar but did not allow images. Choices I've seen are not same as included screenshot.

Other Screenshots include appearance at Fairlane Club origination URL, at AT&T website for emails, and in Thunderbird application.

If you right-click the image shown on the forum or on Yahoo Mail and call up Image Info, does the server name match anything on the list of remote content sources shown in Thunderbird?

more options

Oh wait, that was a sample screenshot of the remote content list, not the actual one, you aren't getting one. Hmm...

more options

That was actual screen shot. Attached is updated.

Also attached is screenshot of image properties at Yahoo (AT&T)

Perhaps I need to allow below?:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/363066/forum_message_images/

OR

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/

363066 probably refers to only one image

I did add https://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/ Also moved msg from trash to inbox (at yahoo-AT&T) so it would show again at Tbrd inbox. Restarted Tbird. no help.

Sample shot that I am not getting is the notification bar that says Tbrd blocks incoming messages

If you forward the message (to yourself), while composing, does the image appear, or a placeholder, or is it completely gone?

placeholder in Tbrd. Actual image in Yahoo-AT&T on copy forwarded from Thunderbird. The notification bar is the sample shot that I've only seen twice. see screen shots

In your first pair of images, it looks to me as if what has gone missing is a grey box with text, not an image as such. I suspect javascript is being used to paint this element and that's a no-no in Thunderbird. That would be very much one of those "if you can't see this properly in email, view this message in your browser" situations. It's such a long URL that we can't be sure what it does, but I'll wager it is not just a simple png or jpeg. Note the "aspx" in the URL - Microsoft Active Server Page eXtension. (Having said that, I don't understand how we get to see this element in your later screenshots.)

If it is using scripts, then it seem likely to me that most of the images will be hosted remotely and these are often problematic when forwarding such messages.

IMHO the message is designed for the web and your being able to see any of it in email is a happy accident. ;-)

@jscher; would we expect Thunderbird to be able to make sense of aspx files?

I believe you are correct about image being hosted remotely. If you look at page info screen, the URL for just the image is: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/363066/forum_message_images/-1742155719_lower_calip_mnt_bolt384114-_S.jpg

If you put that in browser URL, the desired image appears by itself in Firefox browser.

This info page obtained fr Firefox AT&T-Yahoo page that displayed entire message.

Previous "forward to myself" test proves that URL is carried through Thunderbird but is not displayed (in Thunderbird) as either the image or the host. I know from experience that this is not an "across the board" philosophy of Thunderbird. I have viewed many messages (from various hosts) with remotely hosted images

That leads back to 2 questions. 1) Why does checking the box "Allow Remote Content " not let the image display? 2) I think I used the correct syntax that would allow the remote content to display? https://s3.amazonaws.com

Probably unrelated is part of html? Can't even remember how I got it! right where image is supposed to be is a "Do not send" part. Changing value had no effect.

I just noticed there are two attachments to this message instead of one which is part of original message. Second attachment is an htm when opened in firefox contains complete message including missing, embedded, image. Better than doing the many steps of Fairlane club login. Still very undesirable. Thunderbird options are misleading and outright wrong in respect to allowing remote content. I think my problem is same as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1140324

Hmm, what could cause the original HTML of the message body to become an attachment? Assuming it isn't an error by the bulk mailing software, I would suspect an intermediary filter that cleansed the message on its way to you. But if it only occurs for one or a few senders, hmm, what criteria might that imply??

The user in the other thread mentioned a setting you could use that affects the display of images. Since your screen shot shows background color and italic, I think it's already set correctly, but you double-check:

(menu button/bar) View > Message Body as > ??

Original HTML retains the most content.

The .aspx extension can deliver various content types depending on what the server sends back. It could be text/html or an image/ type. Raw ASPX source would look like a mix of VBScript or JavaScript and HTML; that can't be rendered properly on the client side.

Had set view as original html way back b4 posting my problem. The .aspx extension was only in the URL for viewing entire message thread on Fairlane Club web site. The URL for missing image is : https://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/363066/forum_message_images/-1742155719_lower_calip_mnt_bolt384114-_S.jpg

Just tested "view as" again. Forgot that I had installed plug in "View all Body Parts". It appears to be what is causing second full content htm message attachment. Referring to above Posted Today at 7:08 AM

If set to original htm, there is no second attachment.
