My (Windows XP) computer has two email accounts plus Local Folders which show correctly under "Mail and News Accounts" in Troubleshooting Information. But Thunderbird has stopped showing one of the accounts in the left-hand column (the directory structure) of its startup page. This account was set up long ago such that the messages are all put in the Inbox of Local Folders instead of in the Inbox of the email account (well, I think Thunderbird is confusing about what's intended there), but it worked fine until recently, and because of this I can still use the email because the Local Folders Inboxes, etc are visible. But because this email account is not shown on the left there is no way to get on the right a corresponding "Email, Accounts and Advanced Features" panel. The second email account (created as a test since this problem occurred) works normally. I have tried the fix described under questions/1141037 but nothing changed. How do I get this account to be displayed?

Chosen solution

It is probably a POP-connected account and set, as you hint, to use the Global Inbox.

Open Account Settings, and in the Server Settings pane, click on "Advanced". Is it set to use the Global Inbox?

Setting it to use its own Inbox should make it re-appear in the list of accounts.

Thank you; this worked (although I don't understand why it worked fine for years the other way). I would love to know what is the intended purpose of Local Folders since each account has its own folders; I have never been able to find this explained in the Thunderbird help.

I generally use my favourite search engine for Thunderbird information. If it's on the official site then I usually find it, but often there is much good stuff elsewhere.
