"Remove account" greyed out; how remove old account?

I have a new email account with a new provider and want to remove the old account, but remnants of it remain. "Remove account" under Account settings is greyed out. I have tried to delete the offending files (e.g. Local Folders under the old account in my profile) in Windows but they simply come back next time TB is started. If I unset "Read only", "Read only" resets itself automatically.

For some reason there were originally two versions of my old account listed. One was removed without problems but this remnant remains.

There is no Local Folders under the new account. I have moved all my old mails to new subfolders under the new account. I obviously don't want to lose them, or screw up TB in any other way...

I am running TB 49.3.0 under Win7 Pro on a 6-year-old Dell desktop computer.

This issue is a nuisance but not disastrous.

The usual reason for account being greyed out is that it is currently designated as the default account.

Have you added the new account? Have you set the new account as the default?

Are you aware that when you remove the account, the account and all its folders will be removed, along with its contents. Move anything you want to keep to somewhere else, such as Local Folders, before removing the old account.

The new account is set as the default account. As I said, the new account does not have a Local Folders, but I've moved all the old stuff to new subfolders under the new account, so hopefully I wouldn't lose it if I was finally able to get rid of the old one.

So there must be another reason why "Remove account" is greyed out.

You should have only one Local Folders. And it is an account in its own right and doesn't belong to or reside in any other account.

It seems likely you renamed it, and you aren't allowed to remove it (hence its entry in the accounts list, regardless of any re-naming, will be greyed out.) Please rename it back to Local Folders, to avoid any further confusion.

Local Folders is a special account which provides storage on your computer, independent of any real email address or email server. It gives you a safe haven for any material you don't want to leave on a server, and is the native home for Outbox (unsent messages) and some newsgroup messages. Mine is busy with Saved Search folders, collating messages from multiple folders and accounts.

Thanks for explanation re Local Folders. However, I have not renamed it. It does not appear under either the old or the new account in the pane at left listing all TB folders and subfolders, but exists in Windows Explorer under my TB profile -> Mail. Under "Old Account" (as I have renamed the old account) in that left-hand pane I see only Trash and Outbox (both empty). (The new account has its own Trash and Outbox.)

The mystery remains.
