If you are refering to the folders ending in eg: 0be4e333 Then these are in the Trash folder. I can tell because the 'Trash' folder has a right angled triangle pointing to right and downwards.

As I do not know what the first two characters mean in English, I'm not certain what they refer to. What happens if you empty the trash folder? right click on 'Trash' and select 'Empty Trash'

Thank you for your quick reply to my question! The first two characters are Chinese characters which do no exist in Japanese, and therefore I don't know what they mean. I followed your instruction and I right clicked on "Trash" and selected "Empty Trash" and then those folders did disappear! As I found those folders showed up when I later opened my PC, I want to see what will happen now to the weird situation and if similar folders again come up or not. I will report to you later. Thank you for your kind help!

Yours,

Sean

For the four days since I had deleted the sub-folder from the trash box, I did not see the weird sub-folder, but today it showed up again. This time not under (or inside) the trash box but in the in-box!

As I have not received your reply to above, I have completely deleted the THUNDERBIRD program from my PC and reinstalled it. However, all of my records such as address book, received emails, sent emails, and sub-folders I made and so on showed up as if they were not totally deleted. Then again the unwanted, weird sub-folders emerged!! How can I start my email setting brand-new, to avoid such unwanted sub-folders?

re: The first two characters are Chinese characters which do no exist in Japanese

Could you copy paste them into Google Translate and tell me the English equivalent.

re: Reinstalling did not remove all my mail accounts etc. The Thunderbird program is completely separate from your Thunderbird profile otherwise uninstalling could lose data.

Create a folder on your desktop called eg: 'TB Backup' Current profile is located in the following directory - assuming you are using 'Windows' OS. C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

'Profile name' folder is usually called 'xxxxxxxx.default' where the x's are letters and numbers. Make sure Thunderbird is closed before copy pasting; this is important. Copy paste that profile name folder into the 'TB Backup' folder to act as a backup.

If you cannot see any folders as deascribed this could be because they are hidden folders, so may need to make hidden files and folders visible.

Backup and Profile info:

After creating a backup, you can then uninstall Thunderbird and then remove the AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder which contains all the profiles etc. You might also have folders here:....AppData\Local\Thunderbird.

Then install Thunderbird and when you run it the first time it will auto create a new Profile name folder. You can then create new existing mail accounts for you email addresses.

If you need to import mbox files (they have no extension and contain emails) from the backup, you can use this Addon Extension - ImportExportTools: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

In order to install a downloaded extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Drag your downloaded XPI file to the Add-ons Manager tab and drop it.

or

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top-right corner to the left of the search box and select Install Add-on From File…
  3. Locate the XPI file you downloaded and click Open.
  4. You may need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.

For more detailed instructions and information about installing add-ons, see Installing an Add-on in Thunderbird.

Thank you for your feed back! The Google translation of the two Chinese characters is "ON". Thus, the full name of the four sub-folders found were: on0be4e333 on9cc72533 on9cc72533(2) on9cc72533(3)

I have created a folder named "TB Backup". My PC's OS is Windows7. I don't understand how to proceed from here...

In the meanwhile, a new sub-folder named "on(Chinese characters)9cc72533" has automatically been created and could not be deleted! I would appreciate if if you could tell me how to delete the sub-folder.
