irefreshed my comp and thunderbird has vanished can i recover it

I have just refreshed my comp and when I started up all my emails had vanished some with pictures on and some from a long time ago and they all which the wife wants back how can I get them back HELP!!!

check the hard disk. Is there a windows.old folder?
