Thunderbird 45.1.1 is taking a long time to load under Mac OSX 10.10.5.

Error: uncaught exception: 2147746065 Source File: resource:///modules/activity/autosync.js Line: 210

I am also getting several "unknown property" warnings, such as "grid-auto-columns" located in resource: //gre-resources/ua.css.

Finally, the messages window says

Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/Resources/chrome.manifest'a and 'jar:file:///Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/Resources/extensions/%7B972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd%7D.xpi!/chrome.manifest'. These files do not exist on the disk.

Chosen solution

Norton is perhaps the best known for slowing applications and operating systems. It is not a scan from Nortons you need it is an operation on it to stop it slowing things down.

Two suggestions.

Disable email scanning. It is unlikely to be doing anything any way. It does not work with IMAP or SSL or TLS secured connections. That is not Comcast mail, nor Yahoo Gmail,Hotmail or AOL.

Place an exception in the real time scanner for your Thunderbird mail and imap mail folders and their sub folders.

None of that is relevant at all.

Do you have an anti virus? They are very relevant where slow performance is involved.

Thank you for your response. Yes I have the full Norton suite from XFinity cable and I ran a full disk scan too before reporting the problem. However, after getting the slow behavior for 3 days, the access speed appears to be OK today. I am still getting the same errors and warnings, except for the "uncaught exception" error. I wonder if there was a problem with the gmail servers somewhere. I will repost the problem if it appears again.
