I want to uninstall V. 45 and step back to the one before it. How?

My favorite add-on doesn't work. My computer has slowed down perceptively since version 45 was thrust on me. Don't bother asking me to reboot ... done it ... or remove/deactive startup programs ... done it. I just want to be rid of this version or I'm S***-canning the whole system (not really ever been happy with T-bird) and putting it all into Outlook.

How can I uninstall this junk and still save my history, addresses, etc.?

If you want to backup before starting, download mozbackup and run it first. If you have Firefox, make sure that you choose to backup Thunderbird. Mozbackup can save everything you have - except your email password - in Thunderbird, so if that is important to you, do the backup first. IF you don't have a record of your email password, mailpassview from Nirsoft can help, but you will need to pause your security software while running mailpv, av and antimalware programs go nuts over it. I have used mailpv for years, it is fine.

After backing up, download the version you had before 45. That may have been 38.x if you weren't taking notice of version numbers. Once you have the required version downloaded, (and you have done your backup), uninstall thunderbird 45, when complete, install thunderbird 38.x (or whichever version you were using), and after restarting, everything should be working (you may need to reinstall your addons).

Please, if Outlook suits you, then use it. We're not here to evangelise about Thunderbird come what may.

But what is the addon? There may be ways to trick it into working. Have you asked its author if it's likely to be fixed? Or there may be others that could do the same job.

Meanwhile, old versions can be found at https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/

I presume you got to 45 without losing any data. Going back to a recent previous version (38?) should be no different. Moving to a different client would be a lot more work.
