When I enter any topic in the browser I get the following Insecure Connection error message:

"The owner of search.yahoo.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."

I've been using Firefox for years without problems -- I just started receiving this message yesterday out of the blue!

Hi DickL, do you get connection errors on any other secure (HTTPS address) sites?

If multiple sites are affected, this might be caused by a feature of your Kaspersky security software. Please see this article for more information on that: How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites.

If this only happens on Yahoo, could you try this general advice:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
