I was in my Thunderbird Email program reading my emails. I clicked on something regarding Thunderbird Update and it took me to the Thunderbird website page. Before doing anything in regard to updating, I was browsing, and reading, to learn more about some of the program features. I clicked on several subtitles to read about the different features. When finished reading I didn't think I wanted to update my program so I closed off the website page. I then proceeded to go back to my desktop to the Taskbar at the bottom to click on the Thunderbird icon, to access my email, like I normally would do and it opens my email. Now all it wants to do is take me to the Thunderbird webpage. I can't lose my emails. I have important emails in folders there. What can I do?

Now all it wants to do is take me to the Thunderbird webpage.

Can you explain that in more detail? What web page? Have you got a URL?
