Firefox security symbol, Policeman whistling, suddenly appears when using Google, British Airways, amazon web site and others, and then blocks all further access to that site. Moving to another PC/ laptop gets the same result. Eventually it will clear, and allow access again, but often that is after blocking something important like a transaction.

Most frequently does this with Google as I use that to access other sites but happens fairly regularly on the other sites. there seems to be no way of clearing this, apart from using Internet Explorer instead. this started about 6 months ago, and has now become more frequent. I was told initially it was due to a faulty upgrade by Firefox, and indeed it seemed to go away after a rapid revised upgrade was issued. But it has now come back again with a vengeance.

In what what does Firefox block the websites?

Do you get an untrusted connection web page or do you get another error message?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.
