My computer has been restarting, often with the BSOD. A process of elimination appears that Thunderbird may be the cause. The problem has escalated to where I can not even open Thunderbird without my computer restarting. I will confess that I have a TON of files and emails with two separate email accounts tied to my Thunderbird application and an old inactive email account. I also added a new AVG a month or so ago.

I suggest you restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX

Do you still see the crash?

After the crash, the computer restarts with the option to start in safe mode, with the safe mode with networking option. I tried both and it would still crash again (restart or BSOD) when opening Mozilla thunderbird in either safe mode. One of the blue screen messages had the following: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. I had previously uninstalled thunderbird and re-installed it. I have also deactivated one of my malware programs.

Couple of things to check:

re : I also added a new AVG a month or so ago. Make sure there is no conflict with anti-virus software. There should only be one which is doing the job. Example: if AVG is running then Defender should not be running. AS Thunderbird may be using the anti-virus program to scan incoming mail, this could be triggering the issue.

Also, please check your graphic drivers are up to date. I updated my daughters new laptop from Win 8.1 to 10 and had BSOD after a short while because the graphic driver did not update correctly.
