Hi, this seems to be a recurring issue on your Windows XP system:

Has this coupon plugin ever appeared in Firefox? You can check the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, can you find anything coupon related? Please check the grayed area at the bottom for any disabled plugins.

Note: If the plugin is set to "Ask to Activate", then when a site wants to use the plugin, you will need to approve it. If that system isn't working, try setting the plugin to "Always Activate" so sites can use it automatically without further approval.

If the plugin does not show up anywhere: There are several possible reasons for this, including:

  • Firefox not scanning the Windows registry for new plugins. More on this if the above doesn't help.
  • Firefox's plugin registry file has become corrupted. More on this if the above doesn't help.

Hi - That value has been set to true for months - Thanks for your help - anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by "true" here:

That value has been set to true for months

Do you mean the plugin is listed on the Add-ons page and the permission is set to "Always Activate"? What is the name and version of the plugin? If you prefer to copy/paste, you can use my test page here to get the list:

What I meant was on the about:config and check plugins.load etc that value has been true for quite sometime -- I will try the copy/past. Thanks again

The plugin is the one to print coupons - FF did have it at one time - it is not in your list. Thanks again

Okay, let's return to the next two things:

Confirm that Firefox is scanning the registry for plugins

Firefox finds most plugins from a registry entry. I do not know about this particular plugin, but let's check anyway.

Some users have the scanning turned off for some reason. Here's how to check and fix that:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste scan and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If plugin.scan.plid.all is not set to its default value of true, double-click it to toggle it back to the default.

If you changed this setting, exit and restart Firefox to trigger another scan.

If you check the Add-ons page, Plugins section again, can you find your coupon plugin there, either enabled or at the bottom disabled?

If Firefox is set to scan but still does not find the plugin and list it on the Add-ons page...

Remove Firefox's plugin registry file

Sometimes the pluginreg.dat file becomes corrupted. You can remove it and have Firefox re-scan for plugins.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button to launch a new Windows Explorer window showing your settings files.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • File menu > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old

Start Firefox back up again. (If you want to restore your previous non-private session, use History > Restore Previous Session.)

When you return to the Add-ons page, is the coupon plugin finally there?

The plid.all is set to true - and when I check to see if I am on the correct version it says I have the latest which is 39. I will try the registry file removal next. Thanks again

Coupon plugins are usually only available from the coupon website that a person is registered with and uses to get coupons from. Instal it from there.

It's not a common, widely used plugin, like Flash or Java.

It has one use - for coupon printing and one source - the coupon website where it is intended to be used.
