"Restore Session" page after a crash is not responding, how can I get it to reset?

My computer crashed today while I was using several tabs on both IE and FF. I'm not sure what caused the crash, but everything is working fine except Firefox. Now every time I try to restart FF, it starts by attempting to go to about:sessionrestore, then goes to "Not Responding". If I'm lucky, it advances on its own to the page trying to "Restore Session" - but it again goes gray if I try to click anything - then stays unresponsive indefinitely (I left it for about an hour and came back to the same thing). If I force close, the same thing happens again. I have the spinning circle, and I'm unable to open or close any tabs. Right clicking does nothing either.

I uninstalled and re-installed FF, but it's still doing the same thing. I have no idea what to do. My open tabs were Yahoo mail, a forum, and Pandora.

If I open Task Manager, I can see that it shoots up to 100% of disk space being used when FF is open. And now hhhalf my screen is black. It's as though FF is what caused the crash to begin with

And now I've lost half my screen, so I apologize for any typos!. This seems really bad.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm not familiar with how the "corrupt" file works, or doesn't work. Hopefully another volunteer knows about that one.

If you can't use the old places.sqlite file, then you can restore a bookmark backup (copy over the the contents of the bookmarkbackups folder and then see Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer) but you won't be able to access your old history.

Thank you, the Bookmark Backup folder copied fine, but the bookmarks still don't appear unfortunately. I did a search and found this on mozillazine.org (is that a reputable source of info?) http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite#If_a_places.sqlite.corrupt_file_exists

"If a places.sqlite.corrupt file exists

If your Firefox profile folder includes a "places.sqlite.corrupt" file, one reported fix is to open the Firefox profile folder and, after closing Firefox completely, delete or rename the places.sqlite file and then rename "places.sqlite.corrupt" to "places.sqlite". (If you see any other places.sqlite* files, delete those as well, so that only one places.sqlite file remains.) It is possible that certain security or "cleanup" software (e.g., CCleaner) is causing the places.sqlite file corruption. It is also possible that Firefox was not closed properly, as might happen when your computer loses power with Firefox running, which can cause a corrupt places.sqlite file. Always make sure that you close Firefox properly (e.g., no Firefox processes in the Windows Task Manager) before shutting down the computer. [8]"

Would it be ok if I try this, or could it possibly mess something up?

If you don't currently have any bookmarks or history that you care about, then there's no problem getting rid of places.sqlite from your active profile folder (be sure not to delete the one from your other folder).

Thanks for all your help. I never was able to get my bookmarks back, even trying the most recent idea. My passwords transferred fine though, so I'm slowly rebuilding.

I did have a ton of bookmarks that represented quite a bit of research on different topics, but I guess that's just life.

I have had one computer-freezing issue since, on the new profile, when I tried to go to Pandora again. Maybe coincidence, maybe not, I just won't probably every go there from this browser again! :)

There are compressed jsonlz4 bookmark backups in the bookmarkbackups that you could try to restore to get back some of your bookmarks.

You can try to do that first an another new temp profile to avoid issues with the profile that you use now.
