Thunderbird now sends my emails to addresses I didn't select, a potential disaster!

Recently, addressing emails has become a mine field.

I email my wife frequently, so I made her an email description name starting with a period. Always before, in the To field, I'd type a period, her name came up. I selected it and my emails went to her.

Now, four other names come up because they have a period in them somewhere. Annoying but not serious.

But, the horror is, sometimes, after I have carefully clicked on her name, Thunderbird quietly replaces it with a different address, most often the fourth name from the list. That guy has now gotten several private emails only my wife was supposed to see.

I try to catch it, and have corrected several incidences, but it is easy to miss and another slipped through recently.

On several of those switched address incidents I caught, I had been watching carefully to be sure it was her address I had selected - but Thunderbird switched addresses anyway.

Note, this happens even when I am sending to only one address, unlike another posting about a similar problem when sending to multiple addresses.

This has to be corrected before there is a real disaster!

Is there a solution?

Are you using Thunderbird version 31.5.0 ?

If no, then please update.

If yes, then please log a bug report.

Tell them your OS and version of Thunderbird. Give clear instructions on what you do and what occurs.

In the meantime, you could use 'Send Later' so emails are put in Outbox offering an opportunity to review the send details.
