Why is Thunderbird is sending e-mails in parts, a brief reply will be sent as multiple e-mails, each containing a bit more of the content of the reply.

Lately, the reply function in Thunderbird is sending the reply in multiple parts, each part contains more of the response than the last.. I am simply typing in a reply; not saving a draft or anything like that. When I send, Thunderbird will fire off 4, 5 or more e-mails to the recipient. I'm running version 31.5.0 on Fedora 20. It's also problematic, because it is sending things that I'm editing out before I click send.

For example here's a recent reply that was sent in 5 parts over 18 minutes:

1st e-mail in my sent items: Hi Paige, 2nd e-mail in my sent items: Hi Paige, I've been great, thanks, hope you have as well. 3rd e-mail in my sent items: Hi Paige, I've been great, thanks, hope you have as well. I appreciate you thinking about me. 4th e-mail in my sent items: Hi Paige, I've been good, thanks, hope you have as well........

Etc, etc.

Any ideas? This is kind of a deal-breaker. Thanks!

ctrl + Enter is send... perhaps your pressing that when you type.

Thanks for your reply, Matt. I'm aware that ctrl+enter sends, but I'm not doing that.

Thunderbird saves your drafts every five minutes by default. Sometimes auto-saved draft messages aren't cleaned up, giving you the impression that the incomplete messages are also sent. This happens especially for drafts stored on an IMAP server. You can change the configuration to save the draft messages locally by going to Tools -> Account Settings -> [account] -> Copies & Folders- > Drafts and Templates -> Keep message drafts in... and choose Drafts folder on Local folders...
