Duplicate emails being left in my 'Sent' folder, and previous emails losing their 'Recipient' and 'Subject' information.

Okay, lets hope I'm more successful in receiving an answer to this question than my last on, which still has no replies!

I have just set up Thunderbird with my Hotmail email address. Although I had installed Thunderbird v24 some time ago, I didn't use it as I don't think Hotmail was offering IMAP at that point, or maybe I wasn't aware of the significance of using IMAP in order to get my folder support. Now I have set up Hotmail with IMAP.

It is currently in the later stages of retrieving my folders, but it seems I am able to continue using TB to view, send, and receive emails. With this in mind, I have sent three emails since adding my Hotmail account. All three emails are in my 'Sent' folder, but they are duplicated...two of each sitting at the top of my Sent list. The 'Recipient' and 'Subject' info is showing on the web browser version of Hotmail, and was on Windows Live Mail the last time I looked. I can't be sure, but I swear I can recall that info being there when I first started to retrieve my Hotmail emails into TB.

On top of that, I noticed that all the emails I had sent previous to setting up Hotmail on TB are listed, but without the 'Recipient' or 'Subject' info. The date and times are there, but not the rest.

So, there's my questions:

1. Why are my sent emails appearing twice? 2. Where has the 'Subject' and 'Recipient' information gone?

Your sent emails are appearing twice beciase Micrisift are apparently incapable of actually implementing a standard. They just have to do something different. In this case mail going through their SMTP server is added to your send folder. Thunderbird like a good mail client is adding it as per standard as well.

Right click the account in the folder list, select settings and under copies and folders tell Thunderbird not to place a copy of sent mail anywhere.

Right click the sent folder and choose properties and then the repair button to refresh the index, then all mail should show sender and subject

Many thanks for your help. I have followed your instructions and the duplications have indeed stopped.

I still have one problem remaining which I can now give a fuller description of. I installed TB on this particular machine on the 16/03/15. At the top of the 'Sent' folder I have all the emails I've sent since the installation. Then, there's a gap of about 2000 emails out of the 6000 I have in my Hotmail 'Sent' folder. I say 'gap' because it's the only way I can describe it. These 2000 emails only have the date...all the same date, conincidentally, the date I installed TB, the 16/03/15. There is nothing else on these emails...no recipient, no subject, not even a time. When you look at the preview pane, there's nothing in the message body.

If you scoll down below these 2000 emails, you finally come to the emails I'd sent previously to installing TB.

Obviously I'd like to get rid of this gap of 2000 supposedly blank emails, but I'd like to know what they are. Are they emails that TB doesn't recognise? Are they emails that have long since been corrupted, perhaps with all the many installations of Windows Live Messenger I had to do, because of all the resource issues? Are they sitting in my Hotmail 'Sent' folder, either in an intact form, or unrecoverable?

I do seem to recall a separate folder in Windows Live Mail titled something like 'Unrecoverable emails' or something...could TB be putting them in the 'Sent' folder? Finally, if I delete them, am I deleting something that I even had a chance of recovering?

Any additional thoughts on this will be much appreciated!
