upgrade to 31.4 fails on mac

Been using Thunderbird for years. I have no Add-ons.

The last 2 updates that have been made available (31.4 and 31.3) have downloaded and applied O.K., but when Thunderbird went to restart there were problems.

Right after the update, I get the 'checking updates for compatibility' window, and then everything crashes. Even trying to start in safe mode does not get around this issue.

So, I have to download and install an older version of Thunderbird in order to even gat back up and running.

I am running mac 10.10.1 (Yosemite), and have no problems prior to these to updates. I have sent in the crash reports multiple times with my e-mails, but have not heard anything back.

Anyone run into this problem and found a solution? If I can't keep up-to-date, I will need to find a different e-mail consolidator.

Thanks!
