Since my last Thunderbird upgrade to 31.3 I get a white screen for 3 seconds during start-up and before I see my folders. I use Thunderbird to access one Yahoo.co.uk account and 2 Outlook.com accounts. All plugins are disabled. I have one extension, CompactHeader 2.0.9 which I removed but the problem remained. I have now reinstalled it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird - problem just the same. If I start in safe mode there is no white screen, it loads normally straight to folders. I'm not sure what to try next so any suggestions are welcome. Cheers

Chosen solution

OK - I have tried disabling addons and themes, I also uninstalled and reinstalled with no addons or themes.

However - Thunderbird has just done an update and the problem seems to be resolved!

Ian,

A couple other users have reported a problem like this.

Please tell us, does your problem go away if you start Thunderbird in safe mode per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

The problem does go away if I use safe mode. I have tried disabling everything but unless I'm in safe mode the problem persists.

What addons or themes do you have installed? What happens if you disable them?

If you have none, please install beta from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ and visit tools | options | advanced | uncheck use hardware acceleration and restart

is thunderbird better?

Odd. Is the problem still gone?
