When I enabled the self-protection module in Malwarebytes I could no longer print emails from Thunderbird and got an error message when I tried the print preview. I disabled the self-protection module and the print and preview function now work as before. I noticed several other users had a similar problem - thought this might help (couldn't reply directly because I didn't have an account set up)

That is actually interesting information. Have you been in contact with malwarebytes about it? I would love to hear there take on it.

If I understand Thunderbirds process correctly both actions you mention write the document to the temp folder before doing anything else. Perhaps malwarebytes does not like that.

What error message did you get?

If nothing else I will update the anti virus wiki pagehttps://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues

under tools in the error console this error information is listed: Timestamp: 8/30/2014 9:04:56 PM Error: [Exception... "Cannot call openModalWindow on a hidden window" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: resource://gre/components/nsPrompter.js :: openModalWindow :: line 357" data: no] Source File: resource://gre/components/nsPrompter.js Line: 357

and about 30+ information entries which seem to be about thunderbird not recognizing formatting instructions
